Mumbai: CBI nabs two Central Railway officers for graft | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a Central Railway Divisional Engineer and a clerk working on the Bhusawal division for alleged bribery in awarding two tenders, officers stated right here.
Following a grievance, the CBI lodged a case in opposition to engineer ML Gupta and clerk Sanjeev Rade and arrested them after laying a lure. They shall be produced earlier than a Special CBI Court on Tuesday.
Giving particulars, the CBI officers stated that as per the complainant, the duo had demanded a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh for issuing Letters of Acceptance for 2 tenders.
The complainant was shortlisted in July 2021 within the tendering course of for main restore works to the CR’s Bhusawal Zone employees quarters and repair buildings value round Rs 1.34 crore, and upgradation contract for the rail Coach Care Centre, value one other Rs 1.13 crore.
Following the grievance, the CBI laid a lure and caught the duo red-handed whereas accepting the half bribe of Rs 200,000 (Gupta) and Rs 40,000 (Rade).
The CBI sleuths subsequently additionally raided the workplaces and residential premises of the 2 accused and recovered one other Rs 15 lakh from Gupta. Further investigations are underway.
